The “Think Gender conference” – Women Advancement Forum (WAF) & Awards, one of the most attended global gender advocacy conference began in Berlin in 2010 with the simple goal of creating a strategic and comprehensive platform for the development of a realistic approach to sustainable socio-economic and political empowerment of women globally.

The second and third conferences, which took place in 2013 and 2014 in Johannesburg, South Africa and Banjul, The Gambia respectively, had a similar mandate. Our participants have included leaders from all over the world, who have helped in making great strides in the empowerment and advancement of women in many areas, such as first ladies, business people (men and women), entrepreneurs, women in politics, wife of public office holders, African women in the diaspora, female public office holders, professional/career women, and women (gender) advocacy groups. In addition to discussing the sustainability of MDGs and their relation to the empowerment of women, WAF recognizes, celebrates, and honours inspirational achievers in the empowerment of women, through the WAF-Tribute Awards and WAF-Think-Gender Award (formerly: WAF-MDG Awards).
